Draw Your Life
Are you ready for a treat? Well too bad. You get blindness.
When I first heard about the “Draw Your Life” concept, I thought it was a fun, unique idea. Then I popped the lid off of a potent Sharpie for way too long and ended up producing this:
I can do many things. I am multifaceted if you will. But even Bob Ross himself couldn’t help me in the illustration department. Regardless, I had a fume overdose fun. Are you brave enough to stay tuned for Part Two?

Dude (see what I did there?),
That was fucking brilliant. I love the idea, and your drawings… somewhat. But I was captivated, my fellow ex-Blockbuster employee. And you look funny in blue ink.
Le Clown
My blue ink brings all the boys to the yard… somewhat. (See what I did there?)
I’m going to go brag about how I captivated Le Clown now. Bye!
This was soooo cool. You are certainly a woman of many talents, Becca!
Thanks Maddie! It was fun! Glad to see your Gravatar as always :).
Bring on, Part two!
Your skills grow by the second, young Becca. it would be nice to see YouTube produce a star of true quality for a change…
Part two is coming soon! I am shooting for tomorrow, but if not, then definitely at some point this week!
I’ve been working hard, Hook. Maybe the YouTube gods will take notice ;). That’s the goal. Thanks again for everything.
This was awesome. I will have to come back for part 2.
I hope you do! Thanks. Be on the look out possibly tomorrow for the final installment :).
Really cool, Becca. Loved it. You’re quite an artiste. Drawing your life like that adds a whole other dimension. You can focus on those pivotal moments, like the beer in hand misdemeanor…I mean, you have to laugh! I bet the cop thought you were so cute, he didn’t even give you a ticket.
It was definitely interesting to see what moments stood out in my mind. Honestly, if I had used all of the stuff I drew, the video would have ended up being twenty minutes long. But I am so glad you enjoyed it! Look out for part two tomorrow (or at least some point this week).
Oh, and the cop totally didn’t let me off of the hook. I had a little liquid courage and was being “cool” as I lit up a cigarette while he was writing the ticket. Can you believe it? I’m never that sassy. Well, maybe sometimes.
Despite me leaving high school when you born, I love the Ameristralia part 🙂
High five!
You’re such a whiz, I swear. This turned out really effin’ good! Your video skills just picked up my video skills by the neck and choke slammed them onto a cheap folding table. And then your video skills spit on my video skills.
Maybe I should stop eating cereal? That’s it. That’s definitely my problem. ❤ \m/
Cereal is human dog food. It’s going to rot your brain! STAHP!
You are my guru. My teacher. I can never outshine you. And if I do, it’s still a compliment to you. 🙂
Geez Louise, that really made me smile! You’re a sweet, huge heart, you know that?
It helps when you have sweet, huge hearted people around you! 😉 Don’t let your Cheerios get soggy!
If I’m a part of that group, my face is gonna burst into flames… 😉
I’ll be back later, gonna grab a bowl of Cherios. \m/
Wow !! What fun Rebecca 😀
1988 !! I am well past my sell-by-date !! When you popped out I was probably on overtime in a shipyard installing electronics, electrics and cables in a RNLI Tyne Class Lifeboat. Peeing on a generator is a definite no-no unless you are that way inclined and want more of a sparkle in your life 😉
I like what you did with that play on words!
Age is but a number ;). Not to be cliche, but I believe that! Thanks for checking it out!
So you collect antiques then 😉
Okay I was out of the loop on this trend, and I think it’s AWESOME!!! I love this. I also applaud your efforts for trying to get out of the misdemeanor with a beer in hand. Or I would applaud, if I didn’t have a beer in my hand.
Jules. I pass on the torch to you my fellow vlog maker. You must draw your life like you’ve never drawn it before. Because you probably haven’t.
You’ll have to put the beer down though, unless you are a prodigy like that. Yeah… you probably are!
This was one of the most entertaining things I’ve watched in a long time, Becca. Although, the whole being born in 1988 made me feel really old. I was alive in 1988 and was, in fact, celebrating my 53rd birthday.
I love how comfortable and natural you are (or pretend to be) on camera. That’s something I could never do.
Your comment was like a cup of hot chocolate with extra marshmallows. Thank you! I’m glad you liked it. It took longer than expected.
The good thing about videos is you can take as many awkward shots as you want and pick the ones that are slightly less awkward to use in the final cut. You should see all of the footage I toss! Or shouldn’t see.
Blooper reel! I insist.
I think I just had my first hot flash.
Maybe for Christmas if you’re good.
*squeal of joy*
I love these kinds of videos. I’ve literally watched dozens of them on YouTube. I would totally do something like this, but I have no artistic skills to speak of. Can’t wait for future installments!
Jen, you should finger paint your life… With jam! Then eat it!
What is wrong with my brain…
Thanks my little partner in crime 😉
That was really addictive. Looking forward to part 2. Really cool job. Loved the dog story!!
Louie did not die in vain! Thanks so much!
That music, moving hands, flipping pages, appearing and disappearing figures… am I the only one who found myself thoroughly hypnotized by this video?
Score! I have powers of mezmorization now!
I hope that means you enjoyed it! 🙂
You’ve mesmerized me into liking it 🙂
My life is complete!
But you’re still drawing part 2 of it, right?
Absolutely! Part two will be next week, hopefully Monday!
Personally, I think stick figures have a lot to offer.
I had a friend who was of Chinese ethnicity but American-born who worked at a chinese restaurant and had to do the fake accent. Then when people were leaving she’d drop it to say good night. Just for that one sentence. Then if people engaged her, she’d turn it back on. She was a sassy one.
Me too BM. There is an art in simplicity, right?
I used to work in a Mexican restaurant. This one bus boy was just like that. Tables would talk to him like he was deaf and he would respond with a quick and witty well spoken quip leaving the patrons to feel really silly.
Um, this is awesome, and I’m jealy of your video skills. The VoiceOver (that’s capitalized, iPhone?) is Grey’s Anatomy quality with the music.
Katie, that is a huge compliment! It’s something I love to do, and I hope to only get better and funnier. I’ll never abandon WP completely for YouTube, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t like my hot mistress… or something.
Did you say Grey’s Anatomy quality? I will marry you. I will marry you so hard. You made my day!
Seriously with that music? That was some network television stuff right there!
Watch out ABC!!!
There’s nothing I love more than watching some hot girl/girl blog lovin’ action. You ladies are great together. Never mind ABC, watch out HBO!
“When Becca Met Katie”? Could be a big hit, you never know…
Great stuff, Becca! Given that I’m 46, I’d have enough material to be a mid-season replacement for a TV show.
Your Draw My Life video would be a full hour and ten minute feature film, I am assuming. In the end, you will die with donuts, right?
I’d watch the Ned show, just sayin’!
Definitely will be dying with a donut. Maybe I can get a Winchell’s Donuts sponsorship?
Good idea. I know a few people in pastries. Ill send some contacts.
I was counting on that. My only pastry contacts are cream filled.
I love the smell of Sharpies! I can’t wait to see what you draw next!
I do too. Sharpies and fresh tennis balls! Thanks Marie. I can’t wait to see what y’all think of part two :).
What?! My brother had a booger wall too!
I think it is like a requirement, right?
That was great! I’d love to take the time to actually do something like that. And did you always wear glasses, or is this new?
Thanks so much! Oh and time it did take. It was worth the fun of putting it all together, and I am looking forward to sharing part two with y’all as well!
The glasses, much like my hair, are fake. But I do need glasses desperately. You could say I am conditioning myself to be comfortable with having something on my face all the time. Kind of like testing the water before you jump in the pool. It’s only a matter of time until I have to actually cough up the money for a prescription.
I can’t smell the fumes at all. Waiting for Part 2!
I’ll try to make the fumes really jump out of the screen for part two. That way we all win! 😉
Thanks ma’am!
Excellent, draw your life’s are fun. And your skills are pretty darn good! I reckon I could just about manage the drawing but my handwriting is utterly undecipherable, even by me much of the time.
Looking forward to part two! Oh and you have a really super adorable voice 🙂
Thanks for sharing 🙂
Rohan.
Have you ever done any video? Why am I thinking I have seen you on YouTube? My handwriting is so fickle. Some days I look like a calligrapher, and the next I look like I wrote with my teeth.
It was fun Rohan, but also a lot more tedious than I initially thought! Part two should be a bit easier now that I have the swing of things though.
Thanks for the compliment :).
Hehe, yeah I’ve done a fair bit of youtube.
I do songs like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtfTbGaRK1w&list
And talk about stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8as9gO4KUpY&list
Haha, well that’s better than nothing I guess 🙂 I’d have to write so slowly to make it legible I’d require a camera capable of timelapse! Actually I could do it without writing, just with pictures I guess.
Anyway I haven’t done videos for a while now, really should get back into it soon!
Your vids are really good so far, you’ve definitely done your homework. HD, good volumes, nice graphics at the end. Can I ask, where do you get your background music?
Rohan.
I knew I had seen you in that realm before! That’s awesome. You really should get back into. Maybe we could even collaborate on something? Let me know!
Thanks for the compliments. I have learned a lot from watching others and also: almighty Google.
I use Soundsnap.com for a lot of my sound effects. My outro music that goes with the end graphics is a dub step song created by a personal friend of mine named Hunter Deblanc. Being that you are a musician as well, you should check him out! Here is his YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/huntdradio
Yeah, that would be cool Becca! Hmm, let me know if you think of something that would be fun 🙂
Yeah, I want to “video-ize” a number of my blog posts, and get back into the Stoicism videos, I’m getting a few people asking for more now which is always a good sign.
Yeah I’ve always used my own music for vids so I was wondering how you went about it. That’s cool, I’ll check him out, I did think the ending song was really good! Reminds me of the ending of ChimneySwift11’s vids a little bit. He uses Dubstep a lot.
Rohan.
He might not have been able to help you, but Bob Ross would have hadd you thinking happy thoughts.
Just seeing the name Bob Ross makes me feel serene. What a man. Thanks for watching Guap!
Job well done, Becca. 🙂
Thanks ma’am! It was a doozy.
Looking forward to part two!
I have to admit,” that this is the first of your videos I’ve watched. Your voice kind of surprised me. I guess because your profile picture reminds me a bit of Donna on “That ’70s Show.” Your life drawing has been entertaining. Can’t believe the dog peed on the generator! Catcha later.
Todd. Shame on you!
Just kidding. I am glad you finally watched one though. You know, I get the Donna thing a lot. How was my voice different than what you thought? Higher pitched? Lower pitched?
Definitely higher pitched. Not bad, just different from what I expected. ; )
Cool! Voices are weird!
I watched a bunch of these on YouTube one day, they are very addicting and interesting. My Draw Your Life would be very depressing and short. Kudos.
I think they are too. It’s actually a lot harder than I thought it would be. First you have to remember significant events, then you have to draw them, and then voice over. Part one took forever. Part two should be a bit easier.
That was excellent! I can’t draw a stick.
TWIST: I am left handed and drew all of the drawings with my right.
I wish that were true.
Hee hee…
I think I’ll have to do mine using Auto Cad.
Do it! Unless that was a joke. What’s Auto Cad
?
Computer Aided Drafting. It’s what I do for a living. Kind of a joke…but I could probably do it. I deff. can’t draw by hand, that’s for sure.
I knew that. I think those of us who are gifted with words can’t also be gifted with artistic abilities like that. It would be too much awesomeness, and no one else would have a chance at creative success.
