Monthly Archives: November 2013
When I got involved with Bloggers for Movember in 2012, I participated for a few reasons.
- Le Clown asked me, and you don’t tell him no. Unless you like flaming clown poop on your doorstep.
- I love facial hair much more than the average person. I’d take a bearded throw blanket any day.
- It was a great way to get involved with the blogging community and a charitable cause all at the same time.
I slept well every night of Movember 2012 knowing that I had done my part as an upstanding citizen of both the non virtual and virtual worlds of which I was a part. However, this year Bloggers for Movember means much more to me on an intimate level. This year, Movember has sunk into me… deep. BFM isn’t just something I am proud to put my name on. It has made me tap into my appreciation for the men I love, the men I like, and even the ones that I don’t. Read the rest of this entry
The wonderful ladies at The Indie Chicks have invited me back in for some double shot coffee to talk about Bloggers for Movember, and this time, I am not just blabbering about how I want to pet all men with facial hair. This year, I wanted to explain why I find Bloggers for Movember to be a positively impacting cause by writing about an experience that wasn’t so positively impacting.
Hello Mo peeps and Flysters! Happy Thursday to you all. Are your upper lips all itchy and unkempt yet? Do you look more like Tom Selleck or John Waters? Either way, you only have a little bit longer to keep your new facial friend. We only have TEN days left of Movember, and this means it is crunch time.
As I am writing this post, our Bloggers for Movember team is at $277 in donations. Now, that’s a nice wad of cash, but we can do better. Seriously. Last year’s BFM campaign raised over $2,000! Can we try to match or beat that goal in the next ten days? You tell me. Or better yet, show me. It’s in your best interest…
Grand Prize Auction
Bloggers for Movember 2013 has been flying by, and with a little less than two weeks left of Movember, we still have surprises in store. This week especially. I’m not one to let all of the cats out of the bag at once, unless they are going into my house for cuddles, but today I am announcing one more contest held by the long john queen herself.
I’m so honored to host the 2013 BFM movement, so naturally I am stoked to offer up some goodies to the supporters.
Dude, what a great way to get people sharing their Mo pics! Go visit Adam (aka The Chowderhead) today and participate in his rad contest. Don’t have money to donate to Bloggers for Movember? This contest is great for you, because Adam is going to donate for you. All you have to do is snap a shameless selfie!
I’ve never tried to grow a ‘Stache before, so I had to do a quick Google search to make sure I was doing it right:
Step 1.) Don’t shave.
I was surprised at how easy it is, as you can see in the first photo! And since it’s that easy, and because of what it represents, I think it would be cool if you tossed your razor in the garbage and sat on your hands for the next couple of weeks, Chia Guy!
Because the people that are leading the Movember cause are all playing a part, free of charge, in helping to better the odds that your Grandpa, Uncle, Dad, Husband, Nephew, Neighbor, or Little Guy, won’t have to face an ugly prostate or testicular-related ordeal at some point in their lives . We all have one of those personal stories to tell, and all of them…

Hi all you Mo Bros and Mo Sistas. I’d like to say I am proud of all of you Flysters for getting involved with the campaign this year. I’ve gotten a flood of messages, post links, tweets, retweets, contest ideas, and
mustache rides glorious mustache photos this week. Keep it up and keep it growin’!
I’ve been looking forward to posting this update all week as well. Why, you ask? To get you acquainted with our latest Bloggers for Movember supporters, Dollar Shave Club. Before you get to the juicy details, watch this piece of viral video gold straight from the company itself, so you can understand how badass these people are.
Chances are, you are one of the 12 million something people who have viewed this commercial before. I know I had seen it before (and adored it) when a representative of DSC contacted me about a collaborative effort for Movember. That’s right, DSC wants to help the Bloggers for Movember team blow up our donations page. In a good way.
For every BFM supporter who registers with the Dollar Shave Club, the company will donate $10 to our official Movember page. You don’t have to be registered as a team member on the BFM page, nor do you have to donate directly to the team to take advantage of this opportunity to help. Registration with the Dollar Shave Club using a special code is your contribution! It’s kind of like donating one dollar that magically grows into a big, fat ten. Actually, it’s exactly like that. Plus, you won’t have to worry about forgetting your razors at the store come the beginning of December. Just don’t start lathering yet!
Instructions for registering with Dollar Shave Club for Bloggers for Movember:
1. Go to www.dollarshaveclub.com
2. Click register, select your razors, and enter your information
3. Enter the pro-MO code MOVEMBER081 before you check out and complete your order
4. Walk around knowing how philanthropic you are.
I totally ordered a months worth of razors myself. Not for me, I don’t grow hair except for my beautiful, natural red mane. Duh. I need them to shave Jack’s back. So there you have it. Yet another way (see other contests below) to support Bloggers for Movember. You even get something outstanding and useful in return, so I don’t want to hear any excuses. Mo on!
More contests next week from yours truly and others!
Brother Jon is on top of his game with a special BFM contests containing BI13 related prizes. WUTTTTT?! Rad. Get over there and start sharing your stories and experiences for a a chance to win some amazing swag.
Bloggers for Movember contests have officially begun. OH YEAH!
If you’ve never heard of it, Movember is an annual event which encourages people to grow mustaches to help raises funds and awareness for men’s health issues. Last year Le Clown set up a Bloggers for Movember campaign which rallied bloggers to support the cause. It was a huge success, and one that Becca from 25toFly is repeating this year.
I had so much fun with the campaign last year that I told Becca I most definitely wanted to be a part of it this year. Not only do I love supporting charities, but any excuse to grow out my facial hair is aces in my book.
